Chapter 5

Pain flared as fangs plunged into my neck.

I hissed out a breath as Finn groaned against my skin. The ache quickly transformed into a pleasant warmth, spreading outwards from his bite. I could feel each draw, the solid pulls from his mouth, as he took more and more of my blood.

My limbs turned to jelly, and I melted into his warm embrace. His other arm wrapped around my waist, hauling me onto his lap as he continued to feed.

“Is that a wand in your pocket, or are you just happy to meet me?” I giggled, feeling a lightness float through my veins, replacing the blood he took.

I couldn’t resist grinding a little against his hardness. If my blood-loss-addled brain was right, he was squeezing some serious magic into his pants. Lust was a drug, and I was quickly becoming an addict. Newbury would be so proud.

The monster licked at the bite wound in a way that reminded me of the sweetly domineering wolf shifter I’d fled from. Was it bad that a small part of me missed him? I’d known Vrix and his wolves for an hour at best, but they’d sure made one hell of an impression.

“The magic in your veins is potent, Petal. You’re like the sweetest wine; a man could easily get hooked on the taste.” His whispered words tickled my neck, drawing another giggle from me.

He pressed a soft kiss below the bite, and a pleasant shiver ran along my spine. Leaning back, he snagged my gaze. “You saved me, Petal.” His voice was as dark and deep as the ocean in his eyes. Green currents swirled around his pupils, clashing against the blue. “Thank you,” he repeated, powerful arms giving me a squeeze.

A minotaur was hugging me.

I squirmed out of the heated circle of his arms, staggering upright. The midnight air was chilly in comparison, raising goosebumps along my arms.

“Yup, well, I’ll send you an invoice or something.” I shrugged.

Avoiding the intensity in his gaze, I scanned the forest instead. Pools of glowing purple flowers waited silently below sparse trees, the darkness of their bark fought by golden leaves. The bloodied moon shone from an inky sky, flanked by a dotting of stars.

Finally, I looked the minotaur over, curiosity winning out over the awkward feeling in my chest.

He was almost completely whole.

The gaping tears splitting his skin no longer resembled hasty tiger stripes. Instead, they’d closed completely, leaving faint lines being erased before my eyes.

“I know they call it magic for a reason, but hot damn, Tiger, I must have some seriously good juice.”

He smirked, losing none of the intensity in his bright eyes. “I was literally just telling you that.”

Using a hand on the fallen tree behind him, he slowly rose up. And up. And up.

I craned my neck back, whistling low. “Holy shit balls, and I’d thought you looked big plunked down on your arse amongst the flowers.”

His barrel chest shook as a laugh burst from his lips. “Well, I am a minotaur.
